Welcome!!!!

You have reached the homepage of the Michigan Geocaching Organization (MiGO). The purpose of our organization is to promote the sport of Geocaching in Michigan via improved communications and to provide information to the public about our activities and the sport of geocaching. Please spend some time on our site. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us or visit www.geocaching.com for more details.

Join MiGO Today! Membership gives you many benefits. MiGO is one of the oldest and most respected Geocaching organizations in the country. Since our inception in April, 2002 we have grown both in size and stature. In 2007 we were granted an organizational land use permit by the Michigan DNR. This permit is paid annually by MiGO and enables all our members to place caches on permitted DNR lands, with the appropriate permit where required, at no fee. This is just one of the many benefits of your membership. You'll also become part of a local and tight-knit Geocaching community with an active interest in caching in our state. Our forums are very active and are a great place to meet cachers and learn.

To Join, renew or upgrade your membership, pull down the Membership Menu.

Winter Social 2020!

The theme for this year's Winter Social is:

"Exploring New Places"

February 21, 22 & 23!
Kalamazoo, MI

You came, you explored, and by all accounts, you had a ball!

Winter Social 2020 has come and gone and was reported by most attendees "attended" logs as being one of the best Winter Social events ever.  A huge thanks goes out to Neil Moore, Russ Hankey and Sara Rutgers for putting together such a terrific weekend of events.  Also thanks to all of those who volunteered to help at the event (I don't have the list of names.  Please share with webmaster@mi-geocaching.org if you do), to those of you who donated items for the Silent Auction, to the bidders at the Silent Auction and to the people who made cash donations.  While the event has passed, it is still possible to donate to the Winter Social fund:

Here is an opportunity to help give something back to Mother Nature on Saturday, March 7th, in Clare County.

This does not qualify to be a CiTO event and probably should not be a geocaching event, but it is a chance to lend some physical labor to help out our conservationists.

If you are interested, send an email to our Northern Lower Regional Vice President at

Northern Lower RVP

and register with the organizers at

Small Game Habitat in Clare County

You can bring your own chainsaw, chaps, & ear protection or tools will be provided.

MiGO Master Challenge

The MiGO Master Challenge has completed and the results are posted on the forum, linked below.  Participants, please, answer the survey sent by HQ with accurate and honest answers.  We are part of the product development process.

As one of the oldest and most well-known geocaching organizations, MiGO has been invited to participate in a pre-release testing process for something that HQ is building called: “Group Geocaching” Since HQ believes geocaching is a good fit for organizational team-building, as well as an attractive wellness perk for employees, they believe the product will be popular with businesses and other non-geocaching organizations.

Since we know all the basics of the game, MiGO (and a select few others) have been invited to help them out. HQ wants our feedback on this process as they continue development and refinements.  We decided to make it a challenge to get more people interested.

The “MiGO Master Challenge” is only open to Supporting Members in good standing. To participate in the challenge, you must opt-in, you will have to provide your geocaching email address, and agree to respond to polls and surveys regarding program (most likely feedback at the end).

Results are posted in the  Master Challenge Forum

2020 MiGO Scholarship

In memory of one of its past members, the Michigan Geocaching Organization will be sponsoring a $300.00 scholarship aimed at assisting our next generation of Michigan youth in their studies of outdoor recreational activities, in hopes of helping them gain an appreciation of the outdoors while learning to be good stewards of Michigan's land conservation and the environment in general.

2020 Recipients are:

Isabelle McGuire, granddaughter of Kenneth McQuire (The Frito Bandito).  Isabelle is studying Applied Geophysics at Michigan Technological University.

Annabelle Allen, daughter of Michelle and Patrick Allen (The Allen Cachers).  Annabelle is studying Computer Science at the Univerity of Michigan.

The "belles" truly tolled this year.

2019 MiGO Election

New additions to the Executive Committee and Regional Vice Presidents were introduced at Winter Social 2020.

New to the Executive Committee is:

Jodi Spalding (LiteOnCache) from the Southeast Region.  Jodi is a past member of the EC and has rejoined to fill a vacant At Large Position.

We are fortunate to have a volunteer for the UP Regional Vice President position.  We welcome Supporting Member
Karin Freward (theworldisoutthere) to fill this often unfilled position.

We are also fortunate to have a volunteer for the 5th Chapter (for members living outside Michigan).   Welcome Supporting Member
Ian Lengel (OnABoat) to fill this (perhaps never before filled) position.  Ian is the President of the Ohio Geocaching Association, a group much like our own.

Join us in offering our thanks and congratulations for become part of the MiGO team.

Our SW RVP, Kneel Moore, has retired from his position as of the close of the Winter Social event.  We thank him for his excellent service and for he and his team hosting an excellent Winter Social.  We are still looking for someone to fill his shoes.

RVPs are responsible for supporting the goals and mission of MiGO, promoting geocaching, being the liaison with members and park managers, and supporting local events and CITO's within their region.  RVPs will be given a budget for the purpose of supporting events.

Camp MiGO 2020

The First Annual MiGO Summer Camping Weekend has come and gone and was a great success.  A large crowd enjoyed a great lunch and great weather in a beautiful park full of new caches.

In 2020, Camp MiGO will become a "tradition".  Save the weekend:

      August 21-23, 2020

We would like to extend a huge thank you to the Haunted Hollow crew for hiding the caches for Camp MiGO and helping out with the "new" event.

We would also like to thank Sleepy Hollow State Park for continuing to host a major caching event.

Watch this space and the MiGO Event Calendar for more information for 2020

MiGO Store

We are looking at new items to put in the store and are always interested in your feedback.  Is there something you think that the store should have for sale?  Please let us know.

The funding to support our organization is derived through member contributions via donations, purchases in our store, and supporting memberships. We appreciate your interest in our organization and our store and invite you to look around. If you have any questions, you can email us at store@mi-geocaching.org

MiGO and You

This is the home of the Michigan Geocaching Organization or MiGO. Geocaching is closing in on 20 years of existence and MiGO has been a part of most of that. Our goal is to promote the activity of geocaching by helping geocachers and those looking to get into geocaching. What can we do to help you? Take a look around and let us know what you think. Feel free to share your thoughts and suggestions. Happy caching!

MiGO Leadership Update 2/2020

Welcome the following:

Executive Committee
At Large member:
Jodi Spalding (LiteOnCache)

and in her new role as Executive Committee Treasurer:
Lynn Johnson (LynnGeoGin)

MiGO Member

BIG things are going on at MiGO, and I just wanted to take a minute to let you know what some of them are:

The Executive Committee is in the planning stages for the next rendition of the Challenge of the Month.

August 2020

Come to Camp MiGO the weekend of August 22nd.  Watch the panel on  the home page for more information.

MSPC GeoTour
The Spring of 2019 put Michigan on the world geocaching map with our first official GeoTour!  MiGO and the Michigan Department of Resources continue working together on this GeoTour celebrating the 100th anniversary of Michigan's State Parks.
The GeoTour has been an amazing success and is already one of the most popular GeoTours in the world.  Thank you to the entire team for a job well done.

There are more things to announce, but they're not quite ready yet.  The Executive Committee is working hard to keep bringing you fun things to do.  Your support is much appreciated.  We can't do it without you.

We have new merchandise in the pipeline for the store.  We have unique and exclusive path tags for you to acquire, we will have a bigger presence at events around the state and be making donations in cash and in-kind for events of all types and sizes.  Let your RVP know if you have an event coming up that you would like MiGO to help with.

Membership Cost

The new site is paid for by the month per active membership. If you pay the $10 supporting membership you are paying for the cost for a year. If you sign up for a free membership MiGO pays the cost. On the old site we had over 7000 listed memberships. Why that many? The answer is people checking the site signed up for free membership and never come back. Signing up every three months weeds those inactive memberships out keeping our cost down.  Which is cheaper paying for 150 members or 7,000?

We  have made big strides in the number of supporting members, but we still have a long way to go to break even.  Are you willing to become Supporting Members!

Susan Kay Schug Educational Scholarship

2020 applicants are being evaluated and the winner will be announced at Winter Social.    Any MiGO member, their spouse or their child or grandchild, who will be attending a college or university, is eligible to apply for this scholarship by filling out the form, and submitting it per the instructions outlined in the application form.
