Geocaching 101 with State Parks 100
A Centennial Celebration
Noon to 4:00PM, Interlochen State Park
Join us as we celebrate the Michigan state parks centennial in the very first Michigan State Park. Ideas for family-friendly outdoor fun offered by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and other organizations will be shared at the open house. DNR’s goal is to encourage learning through adventure all summer long. Event highlights will include Smokey Bear, pellet gun shooting with Pheasants Forever, archery, a centennial summer scavenger hunt and so much more! Children are welcome to "Touch-the-Trucks", as DNR staff will have a variety of big equipment on display. The beach store will be open and there will be a variety of vendors selling food and other merchandise, including official centennial merchandise.
Michigan Geocaching Organization (MiGO) is a featured presenter at the Open House, introducing folks to the outdoor fun activity of geocaching. We’ll have information about:
- What is geocaching and how do I get started?
- What is a Geotour?
- What/who is MiGO and how do I sign up?
- What is the DNR/MiGO State Parks Geotour?
This geocaching event is in support of the DNRs Centennial kick off. Our event within an event will focus on what the GeoTour is and a 101 event for new cachers. We will have a preview of the Geotour pathtags and geocoins. Everyone is welcome as the overall event is much more than just geocaching. The Michigan State Parks Centennial GeoTour itself kicks off state-wide on Friday, May 24th.
