Please join your hosts, the Crosswinds Cache Crew, for Wayne County Park's Naturefest on Saturday, May 18th:

NatureFest is a nature-oriented event that will feature live entertainment, nature crafts and games, face painting and free canoeing. Come and see one of the few nesting pairs of bald eagles in Wayne County or enjoy a nature hike led by our county naturalists. All kinds of creatures will be on hand at the animal tent, petting farm and live animals presentations.  Fishing poles and bait are provided.  The whole family will enjoy this FREE event!   For more information, please visit the park's facebook page.

The geocaching event will run from 11:30 AM until 1 PM, and will include FTF raffles for the new caches (including a new Nature series with a commerative collectible for those that find all 12).

Schedule for the day:

  •  11:30      Event check in
  •  12:00      Raffles for new cache FTF's
  •  12:30      New cache coordinates handed out, and enjoy the Naturefest.

Crosswinds Marsh is one of the largest man-made wetlands in the country.  It was built to replace the wetlands that were paved over to expand Wayne County's Detroit Metro Airport (the McNamara terminal).   Wayne County, together with Sumpter Township, purchased over 900 acres of farmland that, believe it or not, were once wetland that had been converted into farm fields by draining the land in a process that took over a year.   They flooded former farm fields, planted new wetland plants and transplanted endangered species from metro Airport.  The area is managed by the Wayne County Parks.

DO NOTE that the park utilizes porta-potties and has no fresh running water or electricity.

If you are intending to hunt for the new caches, please come prepared with long pants, shoes and socks (not sandals or flip-flops), and insect repellent.

What to bring:

GPSr and/or phone and gear bag
Lunch/Bottled Water/Beverages
Trackables
Insect repellant
