Geochicks 15 - Crystal Clear

Geochicks 15: Crystal Clear

Our fifteenth Geochicks brings us back together in Midland at the Northwood University’s NADA Conference Center. It’s a quiet setting on a wooded campus west of town. Let's hope for a dry event this year!

Join us for the weekend of caching, shopping, and Geochick connecting. Festivities begin May 3rd with informal gathering and dinner and chatter and play. We hope to find a place that can fit a large group for dinner Friday night. If we do, we will post it on the conference room door. Keep an eye out on the Geochicks FB page too. The main event starts on Saturday the 4th with a scheduled meeting, games, dinner, and evening activities. Then fond farewells and until-next-years happen at Sunday’s checkout.

Can’t make it for the whole weekend? Not a problem! Come for just a night or a day trip. Never Geochicked before? No worries – we love meeting new Geochicks! Don’t be shy – come and enjoy yourself with us!

When: May 3rd-5th, 2019

What you need to know:

Please meet in the conference room that we have rented at 9:00 am on May 4th. We will discuss the day and the activities we have organized for you. Instructions for the evening will be given at this time also. Be back at the conference room by 5 pm to check in game sheets and distribute prize tickets. Dinner will follow shortly.

Goodie bags: This is one of the favorite traditions of Geochicks! We will provide a bag for everyone. The idea is that everyone puts a gift for everyone else in the bag. It can be small and non-caching related. Bags will be ready to fill at 5 pm. Examples of goodie bag items are pathtags, candles, homemade jewelry, sweets, encouraging notes, but really, your imagination is your limit. This is really just for fun. Don’t stress about it. Plan on about 40 items, and check the “will attend” number on the cache page.

Snacks: Snacks this year will more casual than in years past. Think more along the lines of chips or veggies and dip, cookies, or finger foods instead of crockpot or soupygoopy per request of the hotel and their policies. Our rooms have refrigerators and microwaves this year! If your snack-to-share needs to be cool, you can keep it in your room until needed.

Prize table & Raffle table: We will have a prize table set up to put your donated items on to be won by every attendee. We ask that every attendee bring an item or two to make sure everyone gets something. This hasn't been a problem in the past. Tickets for the prize table will be given out at the beginning of the evening event. Tickets for participating in the daytime games will also be handed out when you return at 5.

To offset the cost of running the event, we have gotten rid of the donation jar and are have a raffle. There will be a raffle table to display items donated to help support expenses of Geochicks 2019 with tickets going on sale Saturday. 100% of the proceeds cover the cost of this year's event and the remainder will go towards next years'. We have seen quite a few creative items like a hand-carved walking stick, a geocaching package, Geochick cookies, wine and beer baskets, event hat & T-shirt package and other great donations. It has been reported that the highly sought after quilt made by cacheratt is finished and ready for a new home!

Game: After the prize table and raffle are done, we have organized games. We will still have the conference room so feel free to bring your own games as well. Pathtag bingo is still on hiatus.

Book, DVD, CD exchange: There will be a table set up where you can place your items for trade. Anything left over will be donated.

Trackables: They have always been a headache for me when owners are looking for them as their last location was at Geochicks. There won't be a table formally set up for these, but if someone else wants to tackle this, be my guest.

Dinner: Our dinner plans are to have pizza and salad as usual, price yet to be determined, but think around $7 per person. If you have special food needs or know you will not be eating pizza and salad, please let us know. The hotel may be able to prepare something else for you to eat, but you would have to set that up through them. As much as the salad bar was a HUGE hit last year and we would love to offer that again, we cannot have one due to our location this year. Any meals must be catered through the facility.

Logo: Laura, a Geochicks pioneer, has creatively designed our logo this year. Thank you Laura!
