MiGO Fall Fun Day 2012 (GC3QNRA)

The UP chapter of the Michigan Geocaching Organization is proud to host this year's MiGO Fall Fun Day at the DNR Pocket Park/UP State Fairgrounds on Saturday, October 6, 2012 from 1:00 PM until 7:00 PM.

The coordinates N 45° 45.678 W 087° 04.872 will take you to the door of the pocket park building. Please enter the building to sign in. We’ll provide information at check-in including the locations of new and existing geocaches in the area. We anticipate having the ability to load the new caches onto your GPS, but bring your download cord.

We will have the entire pocket park to ourselves, including the building so we’ll have shelter in case of inclement weather. The pond will still be stocked with fish so kids are welcome to bring bait and poles to catch (and release) bluegills.

We will have some organized games for those who wish to participate such as a UP themed scavenger hunt, a most extreme geocacher experience, and geocacher bingo. Naturally, we plan to hide numerous permanent caches especially for the event so you may wish to cache in the area for part of the afternoon. For those who prefer to visit, swap stories, or trade pathtags, there are plenty of picnic tables outside and tables and chairs inside to relax and spin a yarn. You may wish to bring your own chair, however, since we hope we’ll have more people than benches!

We are having a pathtag developed for the event. We anticipate having enough so each team will receive one.

FFD 2012 Pathtag

The pathtag reflects our "Most Extreme Geocacher" theme. One of our planned activities to kick off the event (1-2 pm) will be dodging paintballs to retrieve an ammo can or something from an ammo can. Protective gear will be provided to anyone who wants to volunteer to run the gauntlet, so to speak. Only experienced paintballers will be handling the paintball guns to ensure safety. There will be barricades/obstacles to hide behind so it won't be a turkey shoot either. This should be really fun for participants and spectators alike.

Prizes:
We will have a prize table. Feel free to donate a prize. Each participant will receive a raffle ticket and you can earn more through participation in any of the games.

Food:
There will be a pot luck meal and we ask that each caching team bring a dish to pass. MiGO will provide the brats, hamburgers, hot dogs, and buns. Bring your preferred non-alcoholic beverage to keep this a family oriented event.

The meal will be somewhere around 4:30-5:00 PM. We’ll take a group picture around meal time and will draw for prizes and announce game winners after we eat.

Lodging:
Click here for area hotel and camping information.

The Delta Area Geocachers will be sponsoring a Friday evening Meet & Greet/weenie & s'more roast held at the pocket park for anyone arriving early.

Also a CITO event on Saturday morning to round out events.

A Flash Mob event has been added for Saturday morning.

DAGEO has been critical to planning this event and pathtag development. Thank you, DAGEO!
